Civil Air Patrol
Willow Grove JRB
Squadron 902
Cadet Core Program

Civil Air Patrol builds strong citizens for the future by providing leadership training, technical education, scholarships, and career aerospace education to young men and women, ages 12 to 18.

Aerospace Education – Civil Air Patrol (CAP) promotes and supports Aerospace Education, both for its own members and the public. CAP educational programs help prepare American citizens to meet the challenges of a sophisticated aerospace society and understand its related issues.   Cadets are responsible for studying course material and passing Aerospace and Leadership exams.  After successful completion, cadets are promoted in rank and can be assigned leadership positions within the cadet program.  Many Squadron 902 Cadets have been selected to lead Pennsylvania Wing Encampments, Non-Commission Officer Academy (NCOA) and Basic Cadet Orientation Programs (BCOP).

Milestone Award Programs – The Cadet Program itself is divided into five phases, dedicated towards learning and growth:
Phase I - Learning Phase - Wright Brothers Award
Phase II - Leadership Phase - General Billy Mitchell Award
Phase III - Command Phase - Amelia Earhart Award
Phase IV - Executive Phase - General Ira C. Eaker Award

General Carl A. Spaatz Award - The General Carl A. Spaatz Award is Civil Air Patrol’s highest cadet honor. It is presented to cadets who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, character, fitness, and aerospace education.

Leadership Education; Drill and Ceremonies – As part of leadership education, cadets participate in drill and ceremonies.  Drill is an excellent way to promote teamwork, builds discipline, and develops an appreciation for Air Force traditions.  Additionally, the cadets are instructed on proper dress uniform requirements. Uniforms are a requirement at any official CAP squadron meeting, mission or event.  Squadron 902 inventory can meet most of the BDU uniform requirements or you can shop online at Vanguard Industries “The CAP Store” at: http://www.civilairpatrolstore.com/store/link1.php

Physical Fitness – The goal of the cadet physical fitness program is to make Squadron 902 cadets physically fit and to motivate them to develop a lifelong habit of exercising regularly.

Moral LeadershipCivil Air Patrol encourages youth to live the timeless Core Values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect. CAP develops character in its cadets through formal
values education and informal mentoring as ethical dilemmas arise in cadets' lives.

Specialty Programs for Cadets

902 Ranger Program – Cadets are given the opportunity to advance their leadership, navigation, wilderness survival, medical, search and rescue skills. This advanced achievement program reinforces the training established cadet leadership program and Emergency Services Specialty Tracks. Participation in weekend training missions is offered through out the year.

Emergency Services & Disaster Relief – Learn a CAP emergency services specialty skill that can help others in the community or nation when in need.  Squadron 902 specializes in Ground Team Search & Rescue, Urban Detection Finding (Aircraft Emergency Locator Transmitter [ELT] Searches), Radio Communications (ROA-B), and First Aid. Cadets are required to pass the Leadership 1, Physical Fitness testing and attend one Moral Leadership class for the “Curry” Achievement 1, prior to testing for the CAP 101-certification and participate in missions. CAP 101 requirements: CAP 116 parts 1 & 2, CAP 117 part 1, FEMA IS–100, and a current American Red Cross Standard First Aid Card or a current Pennsylvania Certification as an EMT or EMT-Paramedic.

Orientation Flights – Also know as “O – Flights”. Power orientation flights take off at Doylestown Airport and the Glider Flights out of Kutztown Airports.

Model Rocketry Program – Civil Air Patrol's Model Rocketry program is an achievement program for cadets interested in the science, technology, and flight of model rockets.  Cadets build and launch their own rockets usually during a spring weekend training mission.

Special Activities - Have fun attending regional air shows, tour aviation museums, and on occasion, travel on USAF Military aircraft (as provided by Pennsylvania Wing) to points of interest.
